Purpose
This policy establishes the University’s commitment to providing an accessible environment and ensuring equal access to academic and housing opportunities through reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. It outlines the process for requesting accommodations and the resources available to support students in obtaining appropriate accommodations.
Scope
This policy applies to all Hofstra University students seeking reasonable academic or housing accommodations based on a disability. It governs accommodation requests, supporting documentation requirements, the review process conducted by Student Access Services (SAS), and the procedures for addressing disability-related discrimination or harassment complaints.
Policy
Hofstra University is committed to providing an accessible environment free from all discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of a disability. Students requesting reasonable accommodations based on a disability must complete a Request for Reasonable Accommodations (Academic or Housing) Form found on the SAS website at hofstra.edu/sas; each form must be accompanied by supporting documentation. SAS staff members are available to help students with the request form process, and then work with students to determine which accommodations are appropriate for their needs at the college level.
For more information about applying for reasonable accommodations through SAS, and for information about policies and procedures associated with reasonable accommodations through SAS, please visit hofstra.edu/sas, call 516-463-7075, or email SAS@hofstra.edu.
Grievance Process
Students who believe they have been harassed or discriminated against by a University employee because of a disability may bring a complaint under the University’s Harassment Policy.
