Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to preserve the integrity of Hofstra University’s academic mission by ensuring that relationships between faculty, administrators, staff, and students remain free of conflicts of interest, coercion, favoritism, exploitation, or the appearance thereof. Romantic or sexual relationships between Employees and students can compromise the trust central to the educational environment and may undermine the objectivity, fairness, and professionalism required in instructional, supervisory, advisory, and evaluative contexts.

Scope

This policy applies to all faculty members and University personnel, as well as “Advanced Students” who teach, supervise, evaluate, or otherwise exercise academic authority over other students’ academic work (collectively referred to as “Employees” for purposes of this policy).
