Purpose
This policy was created to ensure that matching gifts are processed accurately in accordance with donor wishes.
Scope
This policy applies to all donations made by Hofstra University donors who are eligible to participate in their employer’s matching gift program.
Policy
Many companies offer a matching gift program for their employees and retirees who make charitable contributions to Hofstra University. Some gifts may be doubled or even tripled.
Donors should be encouraged to check with their company’s Human Resources Department to inquire about its matching gift policy. Further information about Hofstra’s matching gift program is available at https://www.hofstra.edu/alumni/matching-gifts.html
To apply for a matching gift, the donor must provide the University with a matching gift form from their company along with their donation. Upon receipt of their gift and matching gift form, the University will complete the charitable section of the form and send their company the completed form for processing.
Each company has a different schedule of distribution for matching gifts. Most companies distribute checks annually, semi-annually, quarterly, or monthly.
