Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for deferring admission to a graduate program. This policy ensures a consistent process for requesting and approving deferrals, clarifies timelines and conditions for applying tuition deposits to a future term, and supports effective enrollment planning.
Scope
This policy applies to all applicants admitted to graduate programs at Hofstra University who seek to defer their admission. It governs eligibility for deferral, required written notification to the Office of Graduate Admission, applicable timelines, and conditions under which tuition deposits may be applied to a deferred term. The policy applies only to programs that permit deferrals and is subject to program-specific restrictions.
Policy
Applicants admitted to a graduate program may be eligible to defer their admission up to one year from their original application term by notifying the Office of Graduate Admission in writing.*
If an admission deferral is approved after submission of the nonrefundable tuition deposit, the deposit may be applied to the deferral term. To have the nonrefundable tuition deposit applied to the deferral term, the admitted applicant must notify the Office of Graduate Admission, in writing, of their intent to defer within two weeks of the start of the original application term.
*Not all graduate programs allow admission deferrals. Please verify with the Office of Graduate Admissions if the degree program is included.
